Uglich, Russia

Uglich is one of the ancient towns of the Upper Volga region. The native inhabitants believe that the town was founded in 937. At that time the messenger of Princess Olga built a fortress on the high Volga bank and archaeological excavations discovered the remains of ancient settlements dating back to that time.



Uglich is one of Russias most loved towns and best viewed from the river; sightseeing will include the Kremlin and the towns oldest building, the Palace of Tsarevitch Dmitri. The Church of St Demitrius of the Blood, from the 16th century, stands today
