has innkeeper traditions dating from 1752. The Kvikne family, who own the place,
took it over in 1877. Since then the establishment has undergone constant
development which continues to this day.
Many new building, remodeling and expansion
projects have been carried out without diminishing the distinctive architecture
and charm of the Swiss chalet-style complex.
Today, the hotel is a highly modern facility resounding with tradition and
culture, in addition to being one of Norway’s largest fine hotels catering to
tourists.
 The list of prominent guests is long. Kaiser
Wilhelm II of Germany was a frequent guest at Balestrand. Royalty, emperors,
presidents, prime ministers, movie stars and artists from many countries grace
the guest list. The hotel has collected a number of art works and collectibles
which are displayed throughout the hotel and give it its special appeal and
atmosphere.

A small family run establishment that operates
on a bed & breakfast basis and caters to the individual tourist. We take pride
in offering quality accommodations that are quiet, centrally located and away
from the hustle and bustle of group travel.
We have 30 twin bedded rooms, all with private
shower and toilet facilities. Half the rooms have balconies for optimal fjord
viewing. The remainder of the rooms have mountain views.
Our
property has a large, private lawn area that extends down to the seaside. For
the hardy tourist wishing to literally experience one of Norway's most beautiful
fjords, the temperature during the summer months is suitable for swimming. We
have a rowing boat for guest use, provide fishing gear and offer free use of
bicycles.

is the ideal destination if you are seeking a tranquil, relaxing and friendly
atmosphere. The surrounding mountains offer a multitude of hiking possibilities
for the light walker or the hardy trekker. Balestrand is also the perfect
starting point to base oneself for the numerous excursions in the Sognefjord
region.
