The Vallonbruk in Uppland area of Sweden is a
region of unique and historic industrial sites built from the 17th to 19th
centuries. Iron mining, forges and waterwheels were the past history which
now go along with the nature and culture of today. Only 70 miles north of
Stockholm, there are exciting activities and cultural adventures for all.
Distinctive Inns and Manor Houses in the area offer fabulous eating and sleeping
experiences.
Daily
DAY 1 STOCKHOLM-UPPSALA
Pick up rental car in Stockholm and drive north to Uppsala. See the
magnificent Cathedral, the large Royal Castle and the famous Viking graves in
Old Uppsala. Overnight at Grand Hotel Hornan or similar.
DAY 2 UPPSALA-OSTERBYBRUK
Visit the 500 year old mining area of Dannemora and take a self-guided tour
by headset. Continue to the old Manor House and Inn Gammel Tammen in Osterbybruk
for your overnight. Explore this preserved forging village from the17th century.
Dinner is recommended at the Inn.
DAY 3 OSTERBYBRUK
Visit the old Wallon forge and studio of
Bruno Liljefors and then drive to Lovstabruk for lunch at the 18th century Manor
House. Take a tour of its grounds and art and handicraft exhibitions. Return to
Gammel Tammen for overnight.
DAY 4 OSTERBYBRUK-GIMO
Today visit Forsmarks Bruk, the large English Park and lunch in a small cafe
or inn. Proceed to Oregrund on the coast. This small, charming wooden town is
great for a walk on the smooth rocks and eating in the harbour restaurants.
Continue to Gimo for your overnight at one of the best Manor houses in Sweden
from the 18th century.
DAY 5 GIMO-STOCKHOLM
Relax or visit sights you have missed in the Vallonbruk area before
returning your rental car in Stockholm.
